Two Signs That Your Brakes May Be About To Give Out

Automotive Blog

One of the most frightening experiences you can ever have occurs when the brakes on your vehicle give out.  The inability to stop, or the threat of hitting another car or object can be enough to make anyone tense up with fear.  If this happens, it may seem that it came completely out of nowhere.  However, there are warning signs of brake trouble that usually appear first.  Use this information to learn more about two signs that your brakes may be on the verge of malfunctioning.

Your Vehicle Vibrates When Braking

A telltale sign that your brakes may be in trouble is when your vehicle vibrates when you're braking.  This could be an indication that your rotors are warped and need to be replaced without delay.

Although your rotors may have deteriorated as a result of the vehicle aging process, there could be other causes as well.  For example, if you're the type of driver who follows closely behind cars in front of you, you may have a practice of severe braking.  Over time, such harsh braking could warp your cars rotors prematurely, causing the vehicle to shake or vibrate when you're attempting to brake.

The vibration that occurs when your rotors are warped may be quite subtle, so it's important to be vigilant.  Don't allow the issue to continue unchecked, because warped rotors could cause the entire brake to fail.

Your Brakes Screech Or Growl

Another sign of brake trouble is when you notice a screeching or growling sound when you depress the brake.  The sounds may be even more noticeable when you're trying to brake on slick roads, since the brake doesn't have the support of a strong brake pad to help stop the car when there's water on the surface of the road.

The brake pad is there to keep the brake discs from touching.  As it wears away, the metal of the discs begin to rub against each other when you press the brake.  A screeching or growling sound will be emitted, and it may intensify the longer you let the problem go without servicing.

Paying attention to the signs that your car is giving you is a key way to maintain the health of your brakes.  If you notice any one of these signs, get your car to an automobile repair facility like ABS Unlimited Auto Repair as soon as possible so that a knowledgeable professional can do a thorough evaluation of your brakes.
